Martial-Arts-For-AdultsWhile we all know that exercising is good for us, finding the time and motivation needed for a workout can be tough. Most of us have a laundry list of reasons why we can’t fit a martial arts class or routine into our hectic days; we’re too busy with work, the kids need a ride to soccer or we’re just too tired to go. The last “reason” for not exercising is actually ironic, given that exercise boosts energy levels and a challenging workout always leaves you feeling energized (but you already knew that, didn’t you?).

Here are four fitness tips from TryATA Martial Arts that will help free you from that dreaded “couch lock” and give you the boost you need to follow through with your energy-boosting workout:

1) Switch Up Your Schedule

If you used to exercise after work or in the evening, try an early-morning karate or spinning class instead. Working out is a great way to start your day by revving up your metabolism, helping you burn more calories while giving you more energy than a double-shot espresso ever could! You’ll burn off any morning fogginess you might have in your head and greet the day with newfound focus and energy.

2) Tone It Down

If you occasionally feel a bit under the weather (or perhaps you’re just having a lazy day) don’t skip your workout, just tone it down a notch. If you normally practice a 45-minute cardio yoga routine, give yourself permission to do a quick 20-minute routine from time to time. It’s better to do a shorter workout instead of skipping it altogether.

3) Add Some Rewards

Make a deal with yourself – if you meet your workout goals, give yourself permission to have a reward. Maybe you’ve be waiting to buy that new smartphone you’ve had your eye on, or perhaps you want to take a few days vacation but have been putting it off. If you lack the self-control to moderate your own rewards, ask your spouse, friend or co-worker to decide when you’ve earned your exercise rewards by reaching the goals you’ve set.

4) Try Something New at TryATA Martial Arts

Often, people cite boredom as the reason why they drop their fitness goals. Fight fitness-killing boredom by experimenting with something new – perhaps you’ve always wanted to try a different discipline of martial arts, join a team sport or learn how to play tennis. Switching up your fitness routine will challenge your body and mind; learning a new physical skill is a great way to prevent fitness burnout, meet new friends and activate your brain. You might even consider bringing a friend along to a workout, then you can motivate each other and stay healthy together.

Remember that no matter how busy, tired or bored you are, after a great martial arts workout you’re guaranteed to have more energy while enjoying increased self-confidence and a deep sense of satisfaction.
